The White T-Shirt- An ICONIC FASHION REVOLUTION

What began as a ‘Comfort Wear’ was later mandated by the armed forces. The U.S. Naval force was the first to regularize them as standard undershirts in the beginning of 20th century.

By the time World War II ended it bombed into the fashion industry- credits to Lucinda Ballard in 1947. He had the mettle to costume the young Marlon Brando in a pair of tight denims and a White T-shirt.

Since then it has found its fan-base in Marilyn Monroe to Madonna, from MJ to Britney Spears, from Lady Gaga to Kyle Jenner. White T-shirt has million of stories to pen down an epic novel.

This iconic attire went on to find new colours, newer fabrics, new graphics but what remained constant is the “T” which gives the “T-shirt” its meaning.

Taking the work of “Cooper” ahead, “Tropix Togs” in 1950s started decorating the White T-shirts with Walt Disney characters. 1960s were dedicated to Marijuana and Rock music civilization. Later moving to bear some prominent faces like “Che Guevara” in 1970s. 1980s gave White T-shirts a new dimension- oversize with large printed quotes or popular statements amongst the masses and the hankering of young and old to portray its feeling, emotion and character is still buzzing in today’s era.

Other than the iconic pairing of White T-shirt and Blue Denim, it can be paired up with a skirt, chinos or casual trouser. The T-shirt Dress is making the heads turn now days. With torch bearers of fashion choosing the Whites to express their mood, White can be termed as the “Colour of the Season”.
